South Pasadena backs protected Fremont Avenue bike lane
The City Council approved a design for a protected two way bike lane along Fremont Avenue. The plan removes northbound parking while preserving a center turn lane on most of the street.

The unanimous vote approved Concept 2A for the city's Fremont Avenue Complete Streets project. The plan replaces the northbound parking lane with a protected cycle track, removes 97 of 258 parking spaces, and calls for replanting 57 trees and 32 palms.
Some residents worried about losing parking, especially near schools and churches. Supporters pressed for one consistent design rather than a mix of bike lanes and shared paths, arguing that mixing people walking with riders, scooters and faster electric bikes could create new safety problems.
