UC pauses plan to review SAT and ACT role in admissions
A University of California admissions committee withdrew a plan to review whether SAT or ACT scores should return to admissions consideration. The move came shortly before a UC Board of Regents meeting in San Francisco.

The University of California system is stepping back from a recently announced plan to create working groups on standardized testing and high school course requirements. No replacement plan has been announced, and the reason for the withdrawal has not been made public.
The debate matters to Southern California families applying to UC campuses, including UCLA and UC Irvine. More than 1,000 UC faculty members had signed a May letter raising concerns about math preparation among students admitted since 2020 and urging a return to SAT or ACT requirements.
