LAPD and DEA sweep MacArthur Park for drug cases
LAPD and federal agents carried out a narcotics operation Thursday in MacArthur Park. At least six people had been arrested by midafternoon on suspicion of illegal drug use or sales.
LAPD officers and Drug Enforcement Administration agents conducted a Thursday afternoon operation in MacArthur Park focused on illegal narcotics activity. A large police presence, including a BearCat vehicle, was seen near 7th Street while a loudspeaker warned people in the area they could be detained, searched or arrested.
Law enforcement sources said at least six arrests had been made by 3:30 p.m. The park, west of downtown Los Angeles, has drawn repeated attention for fentanyl sales and overdose concerns, and LAPD said the operation was not tied to immigration enforcement.
