Fire crews were called around 3:45 a.m. Wednesday to a burning rail car on tracks near Cajon Boulevard, south of Swarthout Canyon Road. The San Bernardino County Fire Protection District said hazmat teams responded and air monitoring was conducted because lithium battery fires can release dangerous gases.

By late Wednesday morning, the rail car had been isolated on a single track away from the main lines to lower the chance of spread. BNSF told CBS News the train was being burglarized when the fire started, while the sheriff's department said BNSF was handling the incident.
