The Los Angeles Board of Education unanimously approved a new budget and four-year academic plan under Acting Supt. Andres Chait. The district has not announced whether it will run a superintendent search or consider Chait for the permanent job.

The spending plan for the fiscal year starting July 1 totals $20.6 billion, with revenue to date at $18.6 billion. District reserves are expected to cover the gap, while higher salary costs, health benefits and expanded eligibility for part-time workers add pressure to LAUSD finances.
